Caring for your Konjac Sponge

How to Take Care of Your Konjac Sponge

If you love the idea of cleansing with a konjac sponge, but aren’t sure where to start or how to look after this natural cleansing miracle – allow us to explain.

Our konjac sponges are completely natural, biodegradable and vegan-friendly, and pretty low-maintenance too, making them ideal for busy lifestyles. There are just a few simple rules to follow to get the most out of your konjac sponge and keep it fresh and hygienic for as long as possible.

When you first open your konjac sponge, it should be dry and very stiff – please don’t use it on your skin at this stage! Before your first use, you should submerge it into a basin of lukewarm water and leave it for several minutes, to puff up and absorb some water, allowing it to become engorged, soft and squishy to the touch. And here’s where the magic happens – you can then use the sponge as it is, to cleanse and exfoliate and even remove makeup, without adding a cleansing product.

Simply apply to the skin in gentle circular motions, and when you’re finished, rinse the sponge thoroughly and gently squeeze out the excess water.

If you do want to add in a cleanser, make sure that you rinse your konjac sponge out completely, several times until the water runs clear, to ensure that there’s no soapy residue left over. Thanks to the nature of the sponge, any cleansing lotion will foam beautifully, so you’ll only need a tiny amount to effectively cleanse your face.

Once you’ve rinsed your sponge, hang it up to dry. Every KOHA Beauty konjac sponge is attached to a handy hanging loop, so you can suspend it from a free space in your bathroom and allow it to dry out naturally. Don’t leave it on the sink or the side of the bath, as it won’t dry out properly and may gather germs as it rests – it’s better to let it hang freely!

And of course, before you use it again, simply submerge in water and wait for it to puff up and turn silky-soft before applying to the skin.

It’s really as simple as that. And with proper care taken, your konjac sponge should last you up to eight weeks – that’s 112 uses, costing just eight pence per use!

When you’re done with your konjac sponge and ready to repurchase a replacement, remember that you can compost your konjac sponge too, leaving it with your plant, fruit and vegetable leftovers to break down naturally and support the environment.

Eco-friendly and purse-friendly too, what more could you ask for?
